If the U.S. Postal Service closes 252 mail processing centers, five in Wisconsin, and slows first-class service next spring, it could disrupt delivery of everything from mail shoppers to Netflix DVDs nationwide.

In central Wisconsin, it also could cause headaches for rural weekly newspapers that rely on first-class mail to reach subscribers locally and out of state.

Kris O'Leary has been examining all options for getting the four weekly newspapers she manages, including The Star News in Medford and Tribune-Phonograph in Abbotsford, to her customers since the December USPS announcement. The prospects for slower newspaper delivery certainly aren't ideal, she said.
